The Gas Crunch is Killing Me!

For some reason, it seems as if the gas shortage is worse in Metro Atlanta than anywhere else. Tagging on to Angela's rant about it from this weekend, I have one of my own.

I have been good about getting gas. I am waiting until I am down to a 1/4 of a tank before I try to get gas. I have a CX-9 and with as much as I have been traveling 1/4 of a tank of gas comes very quickly to me. Last night I decided that I had better stop on the way home and get gas.

So I pull into this madhouse that used to be a gas station and make my way around to a line. As I am getting in a line, some woman in another car is coming towards me and very upset bc apparently I am blocking her exit. At this time, I had NOWHERE to go bc someone had pulled up behind me.

She's in her car shouting and gesturing at me to move and I am trying to tell her that I can't( I have a backup camera people, I can see when there is a car behind me!). The guy behind me could see what was going on and was trying to help me move backwards, but I could only move about a foot. She's still screaming at me to get out of her way( and I am trying VERY hard not to get out of the car and slap her - seriously, I entertained the thought). Turns out she wants me to do a 3 point TURN into the parking spaces so that she can get through to get out. Now, I have a pretty big car and it's not the easiest thing to manuever, but I attempted it just to shut her up. I finally moved enough to where she could get through and she proceeds to tell the person behind me that *I* don't know how to drive. I swear I am glad she left because at that point I *would* have had to get out of the car and slap her silly.

We are in an unfortunate situation right now, and everyone just has to be patient. I hate it, I am an impatient person, but we just have to suck it up. It took me TEN minutes to get OUT of the station once I had gotten gas. But I didn't lose my temper - even though the reason it took so long is because some woman forgot which side her gas tank was on and had to turn completely around at the pump.....

I just kept thinking good thoughts and turned the Sirius on to comedy and let it go at that.

  1. We are having similar problems here in Western North Carolina, Steph. Fights are breaking out at gas stations, and we're now hearing it could be another week before things really ease up. The place where I work is going to temporarily let people who are able to work from home do so (hopefully I'll get to do it, too).

  2. My hubby just informed me that things are getting dire here in Chattanooga. I'm going to go ahead and fill er up and just try to do as little driving as possible for the next 2 weeks. Thankfully, my little Nissan Versa is very gas efficient, so I can make that tank stretch about 2 weeks.

And I'm proud of you for not wailing on that stupid lady. Had I been in your place, she probably wouldn't have been so fortunate. LOL!

  3. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I'm really glad that you were able to keep your cool (at least better than the lady who freaked out!) A friend of mine posted this CNN iReport about the Atlanta gas situation.

  4. Its bad here. Doug's boss said he could work at home. Meanwhile for my job I am having to drive 70 miles a day. That's 1/4 of a tank of gas. Thank goodness the play is over. That's some help, but Agility is still a 50 mile round trip(sigh)....

I wish I could work at home. Oh and Doug and I leave for SC next Wed, so I hope we can find enough gas!

  5. I hear you. Why do we live so far out, LOL!? I never really understood the complaints about urban sprawl, until we moved this last time. Now that it is 2.5 miles just to get out of my freaking neighborhood, and then another 10 (bumper to bumper) to my office, I use a ton of gas even in my Honda. We figured out my car doesn't get any better mileage than Daniel's SUV. Sad, sad sad.

I checked again yesterday on the way home, to see if the crunch was easing. Our QT is still completely out. i heard the reason is because ATL requires some higher refining standard and there's not as much of that type available right now. Sigh!
